Mission Critical Software and NetIQ agree to merger of equals Mission
Critical Software and NetIQ have jointly announced a strategic merger of equals to create
a powerhouse uniquely positioned to provide comprehensive, leading-edge solutions for
managing e-Business infrastructures and Windows NT and Windows 2000-based systems and
applications. The agreement, which was unanimously approved by the boards of directors of
both companies, will create a combined company with a current market value in excess of $
2.7 billion (£1.68 million).
The new company name will be announced at the close of the merger. The aim of the merger
is for Mission Critical Software and NetIQ to become the leading ISV for managing
e-Business infrastructure and Windows 2000-based networks, systems and applications. The
decision to merge the two companies came about as each company had been looking at moving
into one another's vendor spaces. The two companies share similar objectives, were moving
in much the same direction and, in some cases, they both shared customers. Rather than in
two years time, be faced with the prospect of competing head-to-head, it was agreed that
the two companies should combine their efforts.
Simon Robinson, European Marketing Manager, Net IQ said: "The new company will
capitalise on the strengths of both Mission Critical's product One Point and NetIQ's
AppManager. Both products highly compliment each other. The strengths that the merger will
bring include a global presence, an installed base of over 1000 customers, comprehensive
coverage of Windows 2000 and e-Business infrastructure management.
