MORI has announced the results of its first E-Directors survey which found that 25% of the
UKs top 3,500 organisations will be rolling out Windows 2000 this year. This can be
seen as a strong indication that UK business wants to bring itself up to speed in the area
of e-commerce. 62% of respondents use Windows NT Server as their operating system of
choice for web-based applications, 6% use the AS/400, the same figure was reported for
Solaris and HP Unix. Netware accounted for just 3% of responses. The survey has cut
through the media hype about Linux as only 2% of the people interviewed were considering
using the DIY operating system as their platform of choice for e-commerce or web-based
applications development.
