In 2005, the PC industry will surpass 200 million units. The
North America region and its US subset will remain the leading regions for PC sales for at
least five more years; in 2005 the USA is expected to generate sales of over 64 million
PCs and Europe, 10 million fewer. The figures, generated by eTForecasts and the report
project that the emerging information appliance segment will have very little impact on
the PC industry in the next five years. The PC server segment will see the strongest
growth from 3.7 million units in 1999 to 11.5 million in 2005 and mobile PCs will rise
from 26.5 million units in 1999 to almost 59 million in 2005.
