According to researchers IDC, Windows 2000 has helped kick
start PC sales in Western Europe after a sluggish start to the year. As predicted very few
PCs were sold during the Y2K date change. IDC has indicated that sales for March were
beginning to pick up following the launch of Windows 2000 on 17th February and
the end to Y2K fears.
IDC believes the key to PC vendor growth this quarter is the consumer and small business
sector, and the ability to deliver vast quantities of mobile PCs and that companies such
as Dell, Gateway, HP and Apple should be in a good position to capitalise on these
markets.
