The government's concept of a "University for Industry" has taken a giant leap
forward with the launch of a new network of 68 learning centres and the incorporation of
Wit.
Micheal Wills, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Learning and Technology said:
"Ufi is harnessing ICT (Information and Communication Technology) to make learning
more widely available and accessible than ever before, to both individuals and
business". Ufi aims to provide UK citizens with straightforward access to online
learning resources. Users of the learndirect centres can access Wit to acquire and develop
skills in all major Windows applications.
Wit is a complete learning system which utilises multimedia technology with moving images
and sound. It allows the user to receive training alongside the real application, rather
than in a simulation, maximising both at the rate at which information is taken on board
and the level of knowledge retention after training. Each Wit user receives an
individually tailored course and the trainer is only ever a mouseclick away via the
Internet. The user is able to evaluate his or her post-training knowledge and is given the
opportunity to recap on any areas of doubt.
