MORI has recently announced that in its first E-Directors survey carried out in November
1999, over one in four of the UKs top 3,500 organisations will be rolling out
Windows 2000 this year. Over 60% of respondents said that, today, Windows NT Server was
their preferred operating system for web-based activities. In addition to this, 94% of
respondents said that Windows NT Server was in use in their business. Most telling was the
fact that 25% of respondents said that they were most likely to choose Windows 2000 to
form the basis of their Internet and e-commerce platforms in future.
"These results demonstrate that those UK companies migrating to Windows 2000 consider
it to be their operating system of choice for web-based applications," commented
Gareth Deere, e-directors manager at MORI. "Interestingly, the survey has also cut
through the media hype around Linux in the enterprise space. Of the organisations
surveyed, only 2% of the people we talked to were considering using Linux as their
platform of choice for e-commerce or web-based applications development."
