NEWSUnmetered local calls could increase Internet usage four-fold (29.02.00)

.

.
Internet users say they would increase their Internet usage from the current average of one hour to 3 hours 30 minutes if local calls were free or unmetered, according to MORI’s recent ‘e-public’ survey. Both heavy and light Internet users would expect the same increase in their usage if they could pay nothing or a flat rate for local calls.

However, while Internet users are prepared to pay a small premium for unmetered calls, they are not prepared to pay much more than current monthly line rental charges. The average Internet user would be prepared to pay up to £16 per month (an increase of £7 over the current standard monthly charge). Forty four % would be prepared to pay between £10 and £20 per month line rental in return for unmetered or free local calls, and 22% would be prepared to pay over £20 per month. But a further 29% would not be prepared to pay anything at all over what they are currently paying.

These figures come from MORI’s ‘e-public’ survey, conducted on the Internet among a sample of around 1,200 British Internet users in the first two weeks of February.
